by surapong on Mon Jul 26, 2010 9:43 am Ms Noy’s gonna need some English lessons in order to pass her tests to prove that her command of the language is good enough before being granted her visa. The number of Thai women from the Northeast marrying foreigners is rising every year. Over the past few months, almost 2,000 people have shown their intention to marry foreigners.
If Thai women want to marry a German or British man and move to those countries, they will face a new hurdle from September.
Under new rules imposed by those countries, they must have a basic command of English or German before their visa will be approved.

Well, this regulation is both fair and unfair. I am one of the Thai women who is about to marry a German guy. The unfair point for me is that, I graudated with bachelor degree from the USA and double master degrees from the Netherlands and I still have to pass a German test before getting marry.
Yes, I am non-EU citizen, but this regulation doesn't apply to those who are from developed countries such as Japan and Korea. Do they speak English or German better than me? I don't think so. That is why I said it is not fair.
However, if you look at the integration point, it is good for Thai women to be able to go outside interacting with the others, they can take part time job or classes.

It must be true in some cases, but I think it's wrong if they thought they will have a better life in foreign country. it's nonsense really, I don't respect those women at all; therefore, I agree that people should have English test before they could get any kind of visa, or stay in those countries. BOO!!!!!

When I looked down from the BTS Phloen Chit station I saw people living in a hole in the ground where a sky scrapper building was going to be built. They lived in corrugated metal shacks without running water. I think to myself I must be more grateful because compared to them, I am rich. I have a roof over my home with running water and I have food in my stomach. I have a car. It is not a Mercedes but it is reliable. These poor people will never own a car. I have not been to Isan (or Esan). I have not seen how they live. If a woman from Isan were to come to my house she might consider herself rich.
Being required to speak the language of the country you live in is not a bad thing. If I move to Thailand I will learn to speak Thai. I hope everyone has had plenty of notice so they will be prepared to pass this new test.

To Modsquad... As you traveld and studied the world I'm sure you'll have no problem getting the VISA. You know why? Because you are obviously very, very,very,very rich. 99.9% of Thai's who travel to western countries for any reason most especially for studying are spolied rich. So no need to worry. As with everything else for the rich, your daddies pocket book will pay for everything.
and please don't try to deny it. We all know you are amongst the Bangkok ELITE when it comes to cash money!!

Liberal immigration laws/rules are always appreciated. I would ask you to work on the requirements for a Farang to obtain Thai citizenship or a long term visa.

by eff_ewe on Sat Jul 31, 2010 3:19 pm I too encourage Miss Pampan to investigate how "fair" foreign men are treated by Thailand when they marry a Thai lady. You will then understand what unfair really is.

Do you know that foreigners man marry to Japanese and Korean lady are allowed to live with his wife in Japan and Korea and need not have to report to the immigration every 90 days. Beside they are allowed to work, to purchase houses, need not have to report to the immigration every 90 days, can convert their driving licence to local licence and many more, which Thai government would never allow foreigner man who married Thai lady to do in Thailand. Check it out yourself.

As requirement for any foreigners they have to study the language for at least 3 years before they could be allows to live in the country. I think it very good idea for foreigners to learn the language of the country they expect to live before they get there. At least it should be a basic of communication skill which would enable them to integrate with other. I am in London and I found that many Thais who live here can’t speak the language after 10/20 years or more. Yes it could hard for any one who hasn’t had a basic of the language. I met a girl once arrived from Bangkok expect to be met by her English husband to pick her up at the airport. Luckily I was at the airport to pick my friend. My friend found her lost in the airport before reaching the immigration. My friend helps her with some translation through the immigration. Once she manages to come out she wasn’t sure about whether or not her husband would pick her up at the airport. When I did question her she told me that she wasn’t sure whether or not her husband understood her about she will be return on the flight that she has arrived from. To make thing worse her husband live in Liverpool. She doesn’t even have his contact number. I offer her a lift into London so she could get onto the train but she told me that she can’t even read the language. To end the story I manage to find some telephone number that she has on her it was some one she who live in East London. So I think yes you should some basic communication skill before going anywhere in the world.
